Engineered wood flooring has a genuine wood surface layer supported by a stable, multi-layered core. This construction reduces the natural expansion and contraction associated with solid timber while retaining the appearance and character of a real wood floor.

The thickness of the wood layer, core construction, fitting system and surface finish vary between products.

Solid wood flooring is manufactured from a single piece of natural timber. Each board has its own grain, knots and colour variation, giving the finished floor an individual appearance.

Because solid timber naturally responds to changes in temperature and humidity, it is not suitable for every room or installation method. Always check the product specifications before ordering.

SPC click LVT is a rigid type of luxury vinyl flooring with a stone-polymer composite core. The boards or tiles connect using a click system and are normally installed as a floating floor.

It provides good dimensional stability and is available in wood, stone and parquet-effect designs. All our current SPC click LVT ranges include an attached underlay, although its specification vary by product.

Glue-down LVT is a thinner, flexible form of luxury vinyl flooring that is bonded directly to a suitably prepared subfloor. It is available in plank, tile and parquet formats and can be used to create detailed layouts and design borders.

The floor’s wear layer, usage classification, surface texture and technical performance differ between ranges.

Laminate flooring normally combines a high-density fibreboard core with a printed decorative layer and a protective wear-resistant surface. It can reproduce the appearance of wood or stone without using a genuine timber surface.

Its thickness, abrasion rating, water resistance and click system vary by product, so the individual specifications should always be checked.

Plank flooring uses boards laid in a regular linear arrangement. Parquet flooring uses smaller blocks, shaped pieces or preassembled panels to create a decorative pattern.

Common parquet styles include herringbone, chevron, basket weave and Versailles. The correct format will depend on the appearance you want, the room dimensions and the selected product.

Herringbone uses rectangular blocks arranged in an interlocking zigzag pattern. Chevron pieces have angled ends that meet to create continuous V-shaped lines.

Versailles flooring is supplied as decorative square panels with an intricate woven appearance. Each format creates a different visual effect and may have different preparation, fitting and wastage requirements.

Available finishes include lacquered, oiled, brushed, smoked, stained, matt and textured surfaces. Some wood floors combine several treatments, such as a brushed and oiled or smoked and lacquered finish.

Luxury vinyl and laminate floors may also have embossed or registered textures designed to follow the printed grain. The exact finish is stated on the individual product page.

Bevelled boards have a small angled edge that defines the outline of each plank or block once fitted. Bevels may appear on all four sides or only along the longer edges.

Square-edged flooring fits together with little or no visible groove between adjacent pieces, creating a more continuous surface. Edge details vary between products and formats.

No. Water resistance varies according to the flooring construction and the individual product.

Many SPC and LVT products use waterproof materials, but this does not make the complete room or subfloor waterproof. Laminate ranges have differing levels of water resistance, while engineered and solid wood should be protected from standing water and excessive moisture. Always check the product specifications and room suitability before ordering.

Many engineered wood, laminate, SPC click LVT and glue-down LVT products are suitable for use with compatible underfloor-heating systems. Suitability, temperature limits and installation requirements vary between products.

Solid wood is generally not recommended over underfloor heating unless the manufacturer expressly confirms compatibility. Always follow the product-specific guidance and our dedicated underfloor-heating advice.

Selected products are suitable for commercial or light-industrial environments. Suitability depends on factors such as the flooring construction, wear layer, usage classification, surface treatment and the amount of anticipated traffic.
